ADVENTURE LAB

We have been working with ‘Adventure Lab’ on their first VR escape room adventure, with Nick providing technical art and Jason Storey as developer/engineer. The team are a fantastic mix of talent and experience, including Pixar and Oculus Story Studio veterans Maxwell Planck and Kimberly Adams. It's a mix of escape room, immersive theatre, and roleplaying game.

A team of four players enter the world on a secret mission to thwart Dr Crumb, who is played by a ‘host’, a performer who guides the experience.

EXPLORATION

The environments of ‘Dr Crumbs School for Disobedient Pets’ (as this escape room is entitled) are designed to be challenging to explore, with dangers and puzzles. They have dynamic platforms, enemies and obstacles. This also includes the morphic and animating gadgets the players have at hand to complete their mission. The project requires a great deal of optimisation, which Fire Panda undertook, alongside more technical multiuser systems.

TEAMWORK

In the words of Adventure Lab:

"We think VR is at its best when it’s with others and we love how coming together for a showtime creates play. It’s designed to be fun for VR novices and experts. When you show up for an adventure in VR, you’ll be greeted by a real live person who will be your host, guide, and at times, your nemesis. You’ll have to work together to solve puzzles and fight your way to the end game before time runs out. For those who love VR, escape rooms, cooperative board games, multiplayer games, Dungeons & Dragons, and immersive theater— VR adventures are for you."
